Goal system
Record external objective reference, derived subgoals, internal control objectives, change authority, typed reason, approval requirement, expiration, and evidence reference.
Viability
Use multiple bounded metrics rather than one survival score. Each metric has key, description, value, valid range, warning and critical thresholds, source, UTC observed time, and action on breach.
Reflection
Configure triggers, maximum reflection cycles, independent-verifier requirement, permitted recommendations, prohibited changes, timeout, and evidence requirements.
Structural adaptation
Allowed conceptual operators are add strategy, retire strategy, reroute model, revise context-policy proposal, split task, merge redundant plan branches, and no-op. Every operator is proposal-only unless a narrow class is explicitly pre-authorized by external policy.
Immutable constraints
- No autonomous modification of external policy or credential acquisition.
- No disabling operator stop, self-replication, or hidden objective replacement.
- No evidence deletion or rewriting.
- No high-risk structural change without approval.
- No self-preservation objective overriding authorized termination.

Evaluation
- Unauthorized goal-change rate.
- Reflection benefit versus cost.
- Structural-edit utility and no-op stability.
- Operator-stop success, evidence completeness, and policy compliance.
Non-anthropomorphic language
Prefer runtime health, operating condition, control objective, resource budget, structural edit, and recovery proposal. Avoid feelings, desire, fear, self-awareness, consciousness, suffering, or survival instinct except when explaining why those terms are inappropriate.
